Hey guys. Im new to these forums. I am currently a student at the university of alberta in canada. I have a good gpa and good mcat scores. i was thinking of applying for medicine in ireland with the intention of practicing there after im done med school there. From what i've read, it is impossible to get a job in ireland once you have graduated unless you are an EU citizen....is this correct? If it is correct, is it possible to go there for med school, and become a naturalized EU citizen in the process? Has anyone done this before? Also, if this is possible, would it be possible for me to work in the UK once i have graduated/obtained the EU citizenship?
Thanks in advance

i don't think the years in school counts. Also, pretty sure they kick you out of the country if you're not working there/etc. and yes hard to get a job if you're not a citizen. So a bit of a Catch 22.

The only way I've found is basically if you marry an EU citizen and live in the country for three years (not including school). For Ireland it's something like they have to be an Irish citizen (not just EU), and then you are married for three years. Then you get to be one after an application process.

This is just from me digging around info (my s.o. is an EU citizen but not Ireland, so they tack on another 3 years of Irish residency in order for him to be an Irish citizen). Since I'm not planning on living in his native country any time soon, I wouldn't be allowed to be that country's citizen, and therefore not an EU citizen either.

The only way I can see it working is if you find a job that would help you become a citizen and they'd probably need a good reason why they're hiring non-EUs over EU citizens.

Again, I could be completely off with the job/resident thing, but the marriage thing I'm 80% certain of.
