First, let me start by saying I wish this site was around when I was in optometry school. I am in the process of creating a practice management seminar for a large company within our industry. The goal of this discussion is to talk about the things that are currently not talked about in optometry schools, such how to make money on contact lenses, how to bill correctly, is corporate optometry really better than private practice, etc. This talk will be given to 3rd years at each school once a year. I would like some feedback as to what students would like to hear.

When I graduated in 1997 from Berkeley, the practice management course was weak. I've met countless OD's from each of the schools that say their experience was similar. What I am trying to do is change that a little bit. The truth about your instructors, is that most of them are not successful business people. A lot of them do not know what it is like to practice outside of academia. Like it or not, once you become a doctor, if you want to be successful in private practice you will have to become a business person. This is true of dentistry, podiatry, ophthalmology, etc. I would like to help, and I am asking you to help shape the discussion.
