So, I'll basically be done with prereqs after this summer but I won't be taking the MCATs for another 2 years. Would it be a good idea to start studying, especially verbal since I suck at English? My issue is if I start now and start doing problems out of the books, I'll have to redo problems that I've already done by the time I'm about to take the test... or will they have new editions of study books? I'm currently reading lots of books and magazines, but does anyone else have any ideas for long term studying?

I think it would be a really bad idea to start studying the sciences right now, since you're still 2 years out from taking it. It doesnt take that long to re learn the sciences so just study for them and do content review when you are actually taking the MCAT>

HOWEVER, OMG YES start studying for verbal. Start improving comprehension and reading skills, because those take alot of time to improve. I would suggest subscribing to the Economist, or New Yorker, or Business Week (any fairly well written, dense, uninteresting magazine) and just read it regularly. It helps alot!!

Don't take any passages. Huge waste of resources.

I have more than 4 months until my test, is there anything you suggest?

There are two things you might want to consider. First, aim for mastery of the material in all of your pre-reqs. Don't go simply for the A. Know the material cold. Next, is reading various materials. Here's my suggested reading list:

Wall Street Journal
New Yorker
Economist
Random science journals

For philosophy articles, I suggest you go to your library or bookstore and pick up a compilation book on Western or Eastern philosophy.

Remember to read the boring articles as well as the interesting ones. Chances are your MCAT verbal passages won't be the most exciting read. After you're done reading, try to discern the main idea and the author's opinion.

Alright thanks guys!

blackandgold1: I was thinking more of a review for sciences. That way it'll stay fresh and it won't feel hopeless when I'm about to really start studying. And also I think it will be helpful for OChem next year (my last prereq).

SN2ed, I read that guide you posted and thought it was really helpful. I already have a subscription to economist, should I get one from The New Yorker as well? I think The New Yorker is a lot less dry, lol. And for the philosophy, I just checked out Sophie's World from the Library (can't remember what post, but it was recommended).http://forums.studentdoctor.net/member.php?u=156516 Any other sugesstions for topics I should read about? I'm not quite sure what is on the MCATs, but I heard that humanities can be tough as well and overall my reading level just blows 🙁

Thanks again!
