I was wondering if any of you have or would consider doing a practicum longer than a year? I am interested in a site but unsure if I want to commit that long. Has anyone here completed a 2 year placement before?

My program is a bit different than many mentioned on here, it seems, in that our practicum placements aren't generally procured by any type of official means. We basically let our advisor know where we'd like to get some experience, and then we contact that site supervisor to see if they'd be willing to take on a student.

That being said, I've completed multiple two-year placements, yes. However, I should also mention that during those years, I was working at multiple sites (two to three) so as not to restrict the variety of my training experiences. So long as you could do something similar, I'd imagine taking a two-year placement would be fine.

I was at a practicum for ~2.5 years (and I'm technically still there some months later as a contractual employee). However, this particular placement often had folks "volunteer" for a year with the official externs prior to being placed there officially the next year (when a new volunteer or volunteer would come into play). It helped them verify that they had at least one extern who was trained to some extent prior to starting, rather than throwing them completely to the wolves.

I had one (a research focused practicum, but still got clinical hours) for 3.5 years, but as with everyone so far, I was doing another clinical placements at the same time (a diff one every year). Staying at one and doing nothing else for 2 years would really cut into breath of training. That's a big one come internship time too.

It seems you all have the same thoughts I do. This practicum would essentially be the same experience, which would end up limiting my training. I will speak to the site and discuss my concerns and see if they can offer any other opportunities as well. THANKS!
