What are some downfalls of attending a pharmacy school that is in the pre-accredidation status? I am wanting to go to a pharmacy school that will graduate there first class at the end of my first year there. I want to go to this school because it is in a small town and a good enviornment. However, what are the chances that it will hurt me down the road, like for jobs and internships?

I'm assuming that if a school is "pre-accredited", that means graduating students can sit for the NAPLEX...which, I'm not sure I'm right, is enough for the RPh. So if you get that far, I don't think that disqualifies you from anything, even if the school doesn't get accredited in the end, which isn't your fault at all.

You can only sit for the NAPLEX if the school is in "Candidate" status. I'd be very weary of schools who haven't reached that part in the accreditation process.

Oh ok.

Yeah, I too would be weary about schools in pre-candidate status. I'd make them my last resort.

Before you rule out a school based on their status for accreditation, look them up on the ACPE website and see how they are doing with the process. My school is in Candidate status and will get accredited this summer. I have no doubts it will, but the school has an amazing dean that was on the board for ACPE and this is her second school to start as well as she transformed one from RPh to PharmD. She knows what she's doing and how to get accredited. I can't speak for any other schools progress, but I'm sure UIW will be fine. Being in a small town might make it difficult because it's not easy to entice faculty there.
