So i know i am probably asking something thats been asked alot before (so sorry in advance). Right now I currently have no hours for any extra curricular stuff outside of school or in school, i know i need to start shadowing a dentist. What else is there i can do? I am currently a Chemical Engineering major and I have an internship for that lined up in the summer, even though its a different department than premed would that still look good when applying to schools? also how many hours of shadowing and other things are suggested?

also please rate my current gpa. its been approving so hopefully i can keep it up. still got another year and a half maybe 2 years left before applying to schools

Gpa- 3.16
sGpa - 3.12

sorry last question, do dental schools accept retakes? if so would retaking gen chem 1 to bring my sgpa up about .23 pts would be worth it? (implying i get an a ;])

Thanks so much for reading all this crap and the feedback 🙂

What I've noticed is that a high DAT will get you into most places. Just bring that GPA up to about a respectable 3.4 and absolutely make sure you score very well on DAT's. Just get the minimum for shadowing hours. Maybe get in a research lab. Just do well on DAT!

I spent way too much time on keeping my GPA >3.8 and doing research when I should have spent more time on DAT.
Getting an interview is a numbers game and I think DAT is most important. This is just my opinion.

So wait, are you pre-med, dental, or health? If you're undecided that's fine. I am too I was just a little confused. If you're pre-dental you'll have a little more leeway with your GPA than if you were pre-med. However, like Stacker said you'll want to still bring it up a few points. If not, you'll still likely be able to get some interviews with a great DAT score. Just be sure to have good reasons for any poor scores.

I see what you did there.

And it wouldn't hurt to learn to spell "preparation."

If you retake, AADSAS counts both grades, so they will average out. Regardless, you need to take a second look at your math; changing one grade will not bring your gpa up that much.
