A lot if threads here come from pre-dents who wonder if there stats are good enough.

Confidence in one self is what makes a professional.

Grades and experiences count !!

but if you have a Christmas list of extra skills and still questioning yourself to how good is your stats, then there is something missing other than what is seen on paper.

Its difficult to be confident when it seems like everyone on sdn has a 20+ DAT and 3.80 gpa :\. I know that's not true. But it sure feels like folks here are superhuman.

Thankfully these superhumans are willing to help others and give advice. Just remember there are a bunch of people who are unaware about sdn, dat destroyer, achiever, etc. I wasn't aware that sdn existed until someone from dental school told me. This site is a goldmine.

I was referring to posts like this :

Hi everyone,

Can anyone give me an idea of my chances of acceptance to schools, particularly Cali, with the following stats and EC:

Cumulative GPA: 3.66

Science GPA: 3.39

Non-Science GPA: 3.92

DAT: To be determined

MPH in Epidemiology

Extracurriculars:

Lecturer at University

NCAA Referee

USSF Referee

Exam Proctor

Professor Assistant I

Professor Assistant II

Reader for Dept. of Psychology

Academic Teaching Assistant

Web Designer for University

Statistics and Genetics Tutor

Sales Rep

Soccer Coach

Research with 4 different professors for over 4 years

Founder of a Co-Ed Pre Health Fraternity

Dental Shadowing and Observership

University Honors

Dean’s Honors x4

Chancellor’s Honors x2

Anyone have a rough idea of what kind of DAT score I would need?

Thanks for your help

And pleAse keep in mind every dental school and aadsas have the national average acceptable posted on their website.

Dental students are accepted with DAT scores ranging from 16/17 and up.

TO ALL PREDENTS, FIND A NICHE YOU LIKE IN DENTISTRY BEFORE GOING IN, IT IS IMPORTANT TO SHADOW A DENTIST AND BE FAMILIAR WITH WHAT EXACTLY IS DENTISTRY.

Get good grades and be honest with yourself and you will make it.

This OP and others with extraordinary stats and Extracurriculars activities should not be questioning themselves what DAT score is needed or is this good enough , will I make it to dental school.
If so, dental is not for you. Dentists have to plan and make decisions in a moment and adapt.

WEAK

To be fair, that poster's gpa is only average for accepted students, not amazing. If he/she got a below average DAT, then there is still a chance of not getting in anywhere. ECs may be helpful, but DAT and GPA are still king.

Now, if we're talking about anyone with above avg gpa and dat, then I would agree. They don't really have to worry too much, unless they are insanely boring/awkward.

Confidence does matter in every field through this you can express your self perfectly.

Not true there are some who want to be told what to do and get paid just for that.

Dentists are usually independent and require confidence, to know what to do and make the decision based on that to give best outcome for patient.

To be honest, anytime I meet somebody interested in the health field, I say go to SDN, this website is "THE BEST" for info and communicating within piers.

And for the record , constructive criticism is good.
