I'm a recent dental school grad and I'm curious if most corporate/private offices require a pre-employment drug test. I'm in no way a pot-head, but I've smoked on occasion before. As I just finished dental school there is sure to be celebrations incoming. I just want to know if I should avoid smoking marijuana as I don't want to fail a drug test and not get hired. I haven't read anything about dentists getting drug tested prior to employment though, so I wanted to confirm.

Hey, don't quote me on it, I have a friend who worked at 3 different offices and 1 out of the 3 drug tested him. So I believe it all depends on where you work. I'm 100% sure if you work at a hospital or a government position they will drug test you so be careful. If you work at a local private office they will most likely not drug test you but there are some offices that will drug test you. My advice to you is ask workers at the places you are planning on working for.

Also, if you're an occasional smoker I've read somewhere where it'll take 4-10 days to clear from your system. So just smoke a month before your interview or first day on the job just to be safe. Congratulations on finishing dental school, goodluck on your career!

There, you have your answer. Worse case scenario, someone might find out and report you to the governing body and you might even lose your license. I think if you were smart enough to graduate from dental school, you'd know what to do.

Hey man, I'm not a dentist yet but I know it will most likely take more then 4-10 days to clear your system. It all depends on body fat, the more you have, the longer the chemical in the pot stays in your system because it has a tendency to bind to fatty acids. 2-4 weeks is a more accurate timeline, working out and drinking tons of water expedites the process

It takes 2 months to clear from the system, so just avoid it for now.
