I wanted to know what is the proper etiquette during the pre-interview dinners.

I am very quiet and don't socialize with random people, More importantly I don't have much experience going to bars, going out to restaurants, or going out to formal dinners. I don't go out at all as a matter of fact, only for groceries and to the hospital...

How should I prepare myself so that I can make a decent impression, without seeming like a complete introvert.

What are the do's and dont's of these events?

thanx

Try not to be too quiet. Say 2 or 3 things at the very least. You'll certainly want to ask the residents about the program - day-to-day stuff like call schedule.

Aside from that, make a few casual comments, since it is a social event. These can about how good the restaurant's food is, how lovely the town is, how nice the people are, and what crummy weather we've been having.

sounds like my last date...oh and there was no second date

I don't socialize with random people either because whenever I do make the effort, the other party seems to be the super shy type who looks at me like I am an alien. At interview dinners, this shouldn't happen - as much. If you are shy, make sure u sit right next to a resident, or in between two so that u can talk to them quietly without having to scream over the table. Like the poster above said, talk about the call schedule, typical day, the weather, traffic, restaurant choices in the area, things they(residents) like to do. You will do fine, just stay away from controversial topics.
