Pre Match Poeistions

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
hi, Player6872,

I've sent a PM to you.

I believe that starting this year, any prematch offer is illegal (or break the match rule). In the years past, it has always been on the no-no side but this year, NRMP appears to be determined to crack it down and looks to be more serious than ever.

However, I would not be surprised if programs still do some prematch offers, along with we will rank you here and there, so be sure you rank us high.

I am not familiar with all these prematch etiquettes. I have only gotten 2 interest letters out of 11 programs I have interviewed at. both letters were more on the line of "we are great, consider ranking us" propaganda.

I might wait for another couple weeks before contacting programs and gauging interests.

Pre-match offers are legal for DO's and IMG's. They are illegal for US MD students.

Close, but no cigar.

Actually, pre-matches are legal for all independent applicants and illegal only for US Seniors.

From http://www.nrmp.org/res_match/special_part/ind_app/index.html
Six types of independent applicants may participate in the NRMP Main Match:

Previous graduate of a U.S. medical school (someone who graduated earlier than September 1 in the year before the match)

Student/graduate of an osteopathic medical school

Student/graduate of a Canadian medical school

Student/graduate of a Fifth Pathway program

U.S. citizen student/graduate of a foreign medical school

Non-U.S. citizen student/graduate of a foreign medical school.
