Going off of the theme on the 2016 thread of people freaking out.... what scares/scared you about starting veterinary school the summer beforehand?

Just bored and curious tonight 😎

I'm freaking out that I won't be able to keep up with the younger, more recently educated folk! I'm scared I won't be able to stay awake in classes, scared I won't "get" anything, and scared I won't be able to keep up.

I'm also scared that we have rent to pay, the house 7 hours away is STILL for sale & we still have the mortgage to pay, and my husband doesn't have a job here yet 🙁 Scurrrrred!!!!

Have no fears... pre-matriculation anxiety quickly goes away to be replaced with post-matriculation anxiety, eventually to be replaced with pre-graduation anxieyt, eventually to be replaced with post-graduation anxiety!

This is another HUGE one for me. My SO is in MA, 1700 miles away, and unless I transfer back or he can move out here, we're looking at 4 years apart. Which makes me want to gouge my eyeballs out with rusty sporks. 😡

i'm one year in and i'm still kind of looking at all of the above! there are also those days when i'm like ahhhh i'm going to be doing surgery in 1 year and have to be competent enough not to kill my patients and AHHHH i'm going to be 100% responsible for a lot of lives in 3 years!!!! 😱😱

I think this poll needs to be remade so that we can choose more than one option. Although, some of the these pre-starting fears have faded and now that I have looked at the lectures just for the remaining week. I am...

Holy CRAP!! 😱

Current fear trying to shove the information for the following lectures into my brain: terminology (ok, so I already knew quite a bit of this), 2 lectures on basic tissues, skull lecture, head soft tissue lecture, and the pharynx/neck lecture. Along with the Basic Tissues lab. This is all covered between now (terminology was today) and Friday. Really glad I took a basic anatomy class in undergrad.

Academics > existential ("what if I find out in vet school that I don't want to be a vet?") > social (missed all my friends from undergrad, what if I hate everyone in my class, fears of high school 2.0 with such a small class size etc)

Yes please on more than one. Seriously I am fearing the academics, but I had the very very very real fear for like three months that they sent me the wrong letter, or were joking or something crazy would happen. Definitely woke up from dead sleep at least twice thinking I'd forgotten to turn some thing in or failed my classes. Ugh.

This. My SO is only 100 miles away, but I am used to him being my best friend and constant companion. I hate that I won't be able to come home to him every day. 🙁

This was definitely my biggest fear last year! I kept thinking how could I possibly do surgery?! But it turned out great, and the 2 surgeries I did after that turned out great as well. I'm sure you will be fine!

My biggest fear now is that this time next year I will be in clinics!!

And radiology + cardiology in this upcoming semester...that scares me. Academics are probably still my biggest fear!

I stress about most of the options, but the most stressful is the existential option. For sure.

Pretty sure I'm suffering from impostor syndrome. I know that was talked about in another thread, but at orientation yesterday a counselor talked about it and I was like, "yep, that's me"
