I am currently a high school senior and I am trying to get an idea of what my class schedule will look like for the next two years in terms of pre-reqs. So far I have been accepted for pre-med at Pitt, SUNY Albany, and University at Buffalo. I am waiting to hear from a few more schools. I am trying to build a schedule that will prepare me for the MCATs hopefully by mid sophomore year? or by the end at least? I am not that knowledgeable about when the ideal time to start studying. Also with the changes in the MCAT for 2015 (ie. the year I will be taking it) will there be changes in the pre-req by adding psychology and sociology? I am thinking freshman year taking an intro physics class and gen chem or intro bio. And Ochem sophomore year. Any advice is appreciated.

Most people give themselves 1-3 months to study for the MCAT. How long did you study for the ACT/SAT? That should be a decent barometer as long as you feel you lived up to your own potential. Why do you want to take it sophomore year? Are you avioding the new MCAT? You might have more luck in the MCAT study forum. Just scroll down past the Pre-Med Forums.

Well I was thinking about studying 6 months in advance and I thought it might be worth it to lighten my schedule junior year by taking the MCAT courses my first two years. But with the up coming changes I am not really sure how to feel with the addition of Psychology and Sociology. Was kind of wondering if people would post their freshman and sophomore schedules as sort of an outline. Because I have herd horror stories about advising at some schools and I would just like to take the initiative to make sure it does not happen to me 🙂

Don't study for 6 months. That's too long. You will get burnt out and you will forget much of what you learned in the beginning. I think 2 months is the optimal time if you're taking classes. If you can dedicate an entire month over a summer to studying, that would probably be plenty of time.
