I am applying both DO and MD, but have a quick question...

Can DO students apply to all MD residencies if they take the USMLE, or are there restrictions?

If there are certain programs they cannot apply to, is there somewhere I can look to see which accept both DO/MD applicants and which accept only MD?

Thanks to anyone who can help! By the way... I interviewed at TXCOM yesterday and absolutely LOVED the school.

DO students can apply to any MD residencies, and the USMLE is not required for the vast majority. At the unofficial level (illegal), there are some programs that won't accept DOs - they are few. Also, there are very few programs that require USMLE.

From what I have heard, all Texas medical schools have strong programs, congrats on your interview.

As was mentioned before, you can get away with just taking the COMLEX if you attend a D.O. school, but the advice I always give is to take both. You will see when you get to that level in a couple of years that the vast majority of your studies will be USMLE relavent material, so why not take both? If you kick butt on the USMLE and just net an average COMLEX score, then you can put both on your application, and it can only help you.

Thanks for the responses!

That little bit of info helps a lot.
