Hi, so I applied for a pharm tech position at CVS. and couple weeks later they sent me an email with information on their internship program and also the link to sign up to be an intern. since I just finished my 2nd year of pre pharm (didn't get into pharm school, reapplying next year), i dont think i am allowed to be an intern???? i thought you have to finish at least 1 year of pharm school to be able to apply for an internship?

well anyways, i told her my situation and she still asked me to fill out the application. I'm confused??? does regular pharm tech and interns go through the same training??? do interns get paid??😕😕😕

1. You should have posted this in the Pre-Pharmacy section.

2. The status of an intern and the earliest date you can work as an intern depends on your state.

3. The training varies from company to company.

4. Interns typically get paid if it's not a rotation or experiential hours for school.

At CVS you get put onto the pharmacy school track. It goes like this:

1st year pre-pharm
2nd year pre-pharm
3rd year intern
4th year intern
5th year intern
6th year intern
graduate intern
pharmacist

If you got into pharmacy school, you will be placed as a 3rd year intern even though you don't have an intern license. They will ask you for the intern license at the end of that year, but you'll be paid as an intern for that year.

so technically i should still be considered a 2nd year pre-pharm...so i won't be considered as an intern?

er... no...

Sparda29 presented the CVS track very well... so if you read it, no, you're not considered an intern. You have to actually get into pharmacy school to be an intern. And with that, to be an official intern, you need to get an intern permit, which is commonly around 4th year MAY.

yes i did read it. I'm just confused as to why the manager still asked me to fill out an INTERN application after I specifically told her that I don't think I'm eligible because i am not in pharmacy school yet.

You could at least try and see if it works out. If you meet certain requirements, you might be able to start at least something.

When you START pharmacy school, you are considered a 3rd year intern with CVS, and you keep moving up every year.

If you want to lie to them and say your a 3rd year intern, go ahead, your going to get paid as one (which is not much money), and it'll be funny when you reach 6th year/graduate/pharmacist status when your actually still in school lol

For those that have been accepted to pharmacy school, when were you considered a third year intern by CVS? When you officially started classes or during the summer before? The Rx supervisor is trying to find out when I will be eligible for intern pay. My PIC said I should be eligible July 1, but I was pretty sure I had to start classes first.

I believe that it depends on the state. In Massachusetts you are considered an intern in the summer before your 3rd year (if you are in an 0-6 program).

I am in an 0-6 program and was considered a 3rd year intern on May 31st of the summer between 3rd and 4th. I was just changed over to a 4th year intern on May 31st of this year as well.

I'm not sure how it works if you are accepted into the 3rd year of a non 0-6 program.
