Pre-Pharmacy Scholarships

Hello.

I have a quick question regarding scholarships for students pursuing a PharmD. It seems to me that the majority of scholarships require you to be pursuing a bachelor's degree. If you are declaring "pre-pharmacy" as your major and then planning on attending a 4 year program after that you are not earning a bachelor's degree right?

Are there any specific scholarships for those applying for pre-pharmacy? I haven't been able to find any.

Pre-Pharmacy is not a major. This is simply a designation given to students who plan to attend pharmacy school after college. You would pick a major, for example, Biochemistry/Pre-Pharmacy. You would receive a degree in Biochemistry, plus you would take the prerequisites for pharmacy school. So, yes, you will be earning a bachelor's degree.

I do not personally know of any, however, you might check with the undergraduate institution(s) you are considering as some universities offer scholarships for students pursuing pre-professional programs. Additionally, your high school may offer some scholarships for premedical, pre-pharmacy, predental, etc.

Hmm...I guess I dont understand then how a 0-6 pharmacy school works....

Do you still earn a Bachelors degree first when you are in a 0-6 program?

No, you're only doing the first two years of prepharm, like you would anywhere else, and then the 4 professional years. Your first actual degree awarded would be the PharmD.
The biggest difference between 0-6 and 2+4 is not the curriculum, it's that you're not taking the PCAT and reapplying after 2 years to get into pharmacy school. A 0-6 school will "reserve" your spot directly from high school for the full six years as long as you maintain your gpa to their standards. A 2+4 program with "guaranteed seat" or " conditional acceptance" is very similar except that you'd probably have to take the PCAT in your second year and do an interview as well as meeting the gpa requirement.
