Considering Podiatry - Pro and Con List - Is It Reasonable and Realistic?
In December 2022, I reached out to this community for advice on pursuing podiatry, and I am genuinely grateful to everyone who took the time to respond. I wanted to share an update (some asked for a 7 year update - apologies, its been only 1)
I've chosen a path that I believe will bring me fulfillment: I've been accepted into my local MD school with a scholarship. My passion for foot&ankle, especially the comprehensive care from pre to post-op, and the profound impact these interventions have on quality of life, remains strong. I hold a ton of respect for the field of podiatry and am thankful for the valuable encouragement and insights I received from podiatrists.
During my exploration, I had the privilege of shadowing several podiatrists who also encouraged my decision to pursue MD. I planned on pursuing podiatry education at Temple, however, after thoughtful consideration and the advice I received regarding the evolving landscape of podiatric education & job market, including new school openings and residency placements, I ultimately decided on a different path.
I want to sincerely thank each of you for sharing your wisdom and experiences with me. Your guidance has been invaluable in shaping my journey toward a career that aligns with my passions. I understand that podiatry remains a fulfilling and rewarding path for many students, and I deeply respect those who choose it. I am optimistic about the road ahead and look forward to the possibility of one day collaborating with you as colleagues. Thank you - Azumaril
