So I was admitted to a certain school without one pre-req. Obviously, I have to take it this summer. Well, I'm trying to take it at a school I've never attended and I have this short time to get admitted, make sure I can enroll in the class, and send in my intent to enroll at the vet school. It's driving me nuts to sit here tonight and not be able to do anything about it. Does anyone have any advice going through red tape at schools to take one class? Any sympathy?

When I had to take a class during the summer, I avoided a lot of the red tape by enrolling as a non degree seeking student. I'm not sure if they do that at all schools, but it sure did simplify the process for me.

I'm in the same position. It's the most frustrating thing I've dealt with. I have two pre-reqs and one of them isn't even being offered this summer. Do most vet schools defer? Where do you need to take the class and what class is it?

i'm taking a genetics class this summer, and was able to find a prof nice enough to do an independent study with me. but i'm a graduate student here; thus, my tuition is paid. despite the fact that i've already had genetics. these damn 5-8 year rules are annoying. you're not in any program, pressmom?

No, I'm not in a program right now. I finished up all my pre-reqs (or so I thought) last fall. (I got my degree back in '03.) I want to take the class at a farther away school that is offered in May, so I can finish it in plenty of time to move. The school I was attending is offering the course in the second summer session but that ends two weeks before classes would start and I'm buying a house and such, so that is less than ideal. Sigh. Guess I'll be sending in multiple deposits just in case. I hate to do this because it takes spots away from other people, but it just has to be done. I'm massively overeating with all the stress, and I've even had a couple of ciggies. :scared: Aggh. Now the application for the summer school won't let me send as my "class size exceeds class rank." How's this possible when my rank is 4 and the size is 325. Why isn't there a pulling your hair out smilie. 👎

Not to add any more stress to your life, but please make 100% sure that you are allowed to take a pre-req over the summer. I need to finish Physics, and Cornell told me that it HAD to be done by the beginning of JUNE or I would not be allowed to matriculate in the Fall. Taking it over the summer was not an option. I think that may be because if you fail it, they won't know until classes are already about to get started, etc. Anyway, I dont know about other schools, but Cornell was very adamant..to the point of being a bit rude I thought... BUT anyway...Check!

I agree with sundoggie. I believe one of the schools you were accepted to is OSU and they require that all pre-reqs be done by spring quarter (that is my understanding anyway).

Well, I talked to the school today and both courses I'm considering (one that ends on 6/2 and the other on 8/10) have been approved! I think it will be easier to get into the one that ends 8/10, as I've already been to that school and my registration window opens Friday. I have applied to the other school to get it over with sooner. If I decide to go to this school, then, as my mom said, I'll be accepting on faith that I'll be able to take this course. I've set tomorrow as my deadline. Sigh. I know it's weird to be complaining about this problem since so many people would love to have it, but it's just really stressing me out.

some schools require you're finished by June, others by a date in August, so just check with the school & make sure you'll get it done under the wire.

I'm in a similar position: last night I started taking a 3rd & final Quarter of OChem for Iowa State (I'm an alternate). I am absolutely terrified to be jumping into the middle of this again! I last took OChem in *gasp* 1995. Eeeeek!😱
