Does anyone know off the top of their head which schools will not take pre-reqs after a certain length of time? As a non-trad I want to make sure I apply to places that have no expiration dates! Also, do they ever budge on these things? Like, if your beginning bio courses have expired but you've been getting an advanced degree in bio..will they still tell you to re-take the intro to bio course?

Thanks in advance!

You can check out the VMCAS info pages for the schools your interested in. If its a hard, fast rule, they will usually post it. But, as someone who is in the same situation, I'll tell you, your best bet is to call the admissions office and ask. If you can get a response by email SAVE IT! and if you talk to someone by phone, make sure you write down their name, and document what they said and SAVE IT! Some schools do offer waivers or case by case considerations, but they often change the methods by which this is determined, so your better off calling and getting it straight from admissions as to not assume and thus get disqualified after applying. Been there, done that.

CSU has no expiration, however they do want to see that you are currently proficient. Your example of an upper level course more recently should be good enough for them to see that you don't need to retake into bio.

I was able to get a similar agreement with KSU... more recent coursework (in my case, biochem, genetics, and micro) is sufficient to show current proficiency, and I do not need to retake the others (which are all 10-15 years old... ack!). [Their website says the limit is 6 years...]

I am still waiting on ISU's response to this same question [website says 8 years...], and would love to hear about other schools too! I am still working on my short list for next application cycle...

But I agree with LVT2DVM's advice about saving records of who you talk to and what thay say. Incidentally, I asked the guy at KSU what I needed to do to formally document that my old prereqs were OK and he said our e-mail conversation was sufficient.
