Pre-req grades, does C/Ds affect your application?

I heard that having C- and D's in prereqs raises a red flag to adcom, is this true?

I have these from my first two year undergrad (2003/2004/2005):

BIO1: C- (but i am pulling all A's in graduate biology)
BIO2: A
CHEM1: B+
CHEM2: A
OCHEM1: B
OCHEM2: C

PHYS1: D
missing phys2, eng1, eng2

Anyways, I am taking the DAT this summer, and that will hopefully wipe any doubt of my chemistry and biology abilities. The problem is just the lack of 3 pre-reqs and a D in phys1.

If i do not take phys/eng before i apply, would it look like I do not want to get into dental school enough? Thanks ahead of time.

You have to check all the schools you will be applying to, most schools require a "C" or better in all pre-reqs. So you might have to retake that "C-" course to at least bump it up to a solid "C" or better!
And you will have to def retake that "D", because its absolutely unacceptable for a pre-req.
Good luck

You need to retake your phys and you may need to take the course that you have c-. Even though you may be ok with C-, but retake it if you can. Schools like to see good grades in 1. your pre-reqs and 2. higher level biology courses besides the GPA.

You do not need to take these courses before applying, but you need to put them in your future coursework, so they know that you will be taking them.

I think it might be a bit silly for a Master's Biology student to retake a first year biology course -_-

6+ years ago -_-

I also have no way to take Bio 1 in the summer because its schedule interferes with Physics 1, which is clearly more of an issue o_o

I would retake the classes you got anything below C-

Most schools minimum cutoffs for pre-req grades.

You could still apply this year. You just have list on the application that you plan on re-taking the respective courses in question.

It's just another hoop you have to jump through. There is a way to take Bio 1 this summer... through independent study, or online courses. That's how I took my Physics pre-reqs when they didn't mesh well with my schedule. I know a good place to sign up for online courses, if you like.

I graduated almost 5 years ago, but I still have to go and take two of the pre-req's that I didn't take (Microbiology and anatomy). It's going to be annoying, but like I said, it's just another hoop.

Would it be a very large difference if i took Bio 1 in the fall instead of during the summer? I am thinking of listing it as a course to take, as some have recommended, since I will be studying for the DAT and taking 3-4 courses at the same time.

SuperTank, I would be grateful if you could PM me with the details of the online courses anyways! Thank you ahead of time.

Also, SuperTank, did you take Microbiology and Anatomy as required courses to get into the Dental School you wanted, or were they your Upper-year Biology Courses?

Regarding C- and D's. I have 2 D's in physics and in a 3rd year chem course called "Organic Reaction Mechanism". The C- is from Bio I.

Do you mean that I should even retake non-prereqs if i get D's? There is no real equivalent to the Chem course in the school that I am in.

Thanks everyone again, I know i always have so many questions
