Hello SDN members
I'm a bit confused regarding the pre-req grade one must have in order to apply. So far i have only found 2-3 schools that say that you cannot have a pre req below 2.0 (C). I have a C in physics and i wanted to know if i should retake it. It isnt really bringing down my science overall gpa because my chems and bios and biochem are mostly As with some Bs. I was wondering if i should retake or not? Also MSUCOM just changed its requirement and they also don't require physics or genetics anymore
Thanks

Pre-req expectations vary by school. You just have to assess the individual school's website in this case. SDN can't help with that.

Only retake it if you absolutely need to. You don't have lower than a C, and if you're pre-dental, both grades will be averaged into the AADSAS calculation regardless of how you do the second time around. One C won't kill your chances. If you're going DO, retaking it might be worth it as the lower grade will be dropped.

Do you mind sharing your sGPA? If it's still competitive, you should be okay. If it's salvageable, perhaps taking some upper-level or elective sciences would help (though I would double-check to see if certain courses count). Remember that your MCAT/DAT score is also important.

My sGPA is around a 3.3 3.4, i am taking a bio class this summer and it should increase by .1 or .2. My mind is pretty much set on the D.O path, but i just don't want that one class with a C to be the determining factor.
Thank you

Replacing the C (with an A) will increase your GPA more than taking an additional class and getting an A. Try to take the bio and retake physics if you can!
