I made a C- in one of my premed pre-req requirements about a year ago. Can I still apply to various schools or do I have to have a "C" does a + or - matter?

I think you need a C, without the minus. If you're applying this year, you can indicate that you intend to retake the class.

does it matter? It's just a variaton of a C. My prof told me that a C is a C. It doesnt matter if it has a plus or minus. Is this true? Has anyone been in this dilemma?

it depends on what the rest of your transcript looks like in regards to your other prereqs. If there's a bunch of B's and C's in there, you might want to retake it. If this is out of the ordinary, then don't. Adcoms will see it as an abberation.

I had a C- in a chem course during undergrad and had the same fears that you did. I emailed a bunch of schools who all told me to take upper level science courses to boost my BCPM instead of retaking a class. Also, they repeated what I said above, that one C- will not deter me from getting into med school if I did well on my other science courses.

ofcourse a minus matters its so hidous looking like some horrid sash...but its ok i have 2 C-s and i am applying
we can be MINUS YOUR HIGHNESS buddies

🙁

Oh well!

hey bub,

i would call each of the texas schools admissions offices to make sure. it would suck to go through the whole process of applying, only to find out it doesn't count.

so its ok to take upper level and not retake the class? what if you have a D?

no, if you get a d, you have to repeat it (if it's a premed requirement).

If you look in the MSAR, most schools write that they will not take any prereqs in which you have earned less than a C, so I would think the D DEFINITELY needs to be retaken. I wouldn't chance it.

Bubba-
Our premed advisor (Binghamton Univ) believes that a C- is NOT credited as a C, and that the course doesn't count. I understand that it is a C (C+, C, or C-), so I agree with you there, but it is a lower grade point, so they're not truly equal.

All this being said, I have heard of schools waiving a requirement or two if the circumstances were right. Maybe call your favorite schools and ask? And getting a big smash on the MCAT wouldn't hurt at all...

Good luck.

A C- is a passing grade, so it will satisfy the requirement. The Committee
will see all your grades and thus the upward trend.--------
