I am doing my post baac and have a question about bio classes. Do I 'have' to take bio 101 and bio 102. i would really prefer to take lets say a bio 101 and genetics for instance as opposed to gen bio 1 & 2. i see for instance that nycom says including a basic course in gen bio so I assume it means at least one has to be gen bio.

i am using nycom as a guide and there website said the following. has anyone had experience with this ?

thanks again
_____________
NYCOM Requirements for Admission to the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Program

Applicants for first-year class admission in the college must meet the following academic requirements prior to matriculation:

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university is required .

Applicants must have completed an acceptable academic year sequence, with a grade of “C” or better, in the following prerequisite courses:
• English – 6 semester hrs.
• Biology – 8 semester hrs. including a basic course in general biology or general zoology (lecture and laboratory)
• General Chemistry – 8 semester hrs. (lecture and laboratory)
• Organic Chemistry – 8 semester hrs. (lecture and laboratory)
• Physics – 8 semester hrs. (lecture and laboratory)

I did my post bac at a school that required general Bio 1 & 2 as well as labs before the computer system allowed me to sign up for upper level biology classes. You sure lucked out if the place you are going doesn't make Bio 2 a pre-req or a co-req to upper division biology classes. Bio 2 was a waste of time, in my opinion. Double check with your pre-med advisor.

Best thing to do is call the dean of admissions at the medical school and see what they require. I applied to a school and they wouldn't let me substitute child psych for developmental psych. Seems the same to me but each school may be different.

i was under the impression also that bio 1 + 2 were the standards to get into other classes like genetics, micro, A&P, etc.

you probably want to still take bio 2 for the MCAT though.

well my post-baac school is pretty lenient on the pre-req's for classes since i have my bachelors allready and i would much rather take an upper level course than a bio 101 and 102 type of class.

i know 4 credits has to be in gen bio but i wonder about the other 4
