hello everybody, let me introduce myself. I am currently a SOPHOMORE and am planning on doing dentistry. I have done most of the pre-requisite courses and here is what ive gotten.
General Chemistry I - D, but then retook it and got an A
General Chem 2- B
Biology 1 - B
Biology 2 - B
Calculus I - I AP'ed out of it from high school
Organic I - B
Organic 2 - ??, curently taking
Physics 1 & 2 - I am going to take it in summer

I have a few questions,
1. do dental schools average the two scores if you retake the course, or do they included both??
2. I am probably going to be taking cell biology, anatomy & physiology, and histology, any other course you can reccommend????
3. How earlyu should I take the DAT's, and how many times should i take it???
4. What is your favorite bottle to drink, Gautier or Hennessy?

well... from the looks of things... you are going to have to imrove your gpa slightly. You will have to put in both Gchems on your AADSAS... and both will get averaged in. Right now... competition is heating up and your Science GPA is a shade below three, which will make applying hard. The courses you have listed are fine so long as you get Bs or higher in them... otherwise they will only hurt you. As for the application process... you should submit your AADSAS ASAP.... do it in May and then take the DATs... its an 8 week turnaround for AADSAS and less than a week for the DAT... some schools can even download your scores off a site. You should take it as few times as possible and do not treat it as a practice exam. All your scores come on one score report to the school. One thing to keep in mind... if you take the test in May and dont get the score you want, you can take it again in August and still be on time with the apps. If you arent ready, dont bother taking it though. Just make sure to study through the summer and take it by August. I applied in May... took the test last week of Aug. and had interviews in September. Hope this all helps.

Last but not least... Personally, Im a Courvoisier man...

Good luck to ya...

AADSAS does average courses you have taken twice. I recommend getting an A in at least 75% of your remaining science classes for your science gpa to be competitive. Average science gpa's for matriculants now are around 3.5, along with the overall gpa, at least at the schools where I interviewed. Although B's look fine, they don't make a very good gpa, unfortunately. I had an abundance of B-'s my freshman year, which only gave me around a 2.7 science gpa. I had to pull mostly A's my remaining years to get around a 3.4 science gpa. If you had around a 3.2/3.3 science gpa, you should be fine too considering you score above a 20 on the DAT. Your future course selection is great in preparaing you for dental school. Supplemental biology courses I took were genetics and biochemistry, both of which helped me with the DAT (genetics a good amount, but the class was arguably the most difficult I had during my undergraduate). Take the DAT by early to mid-July so the scores can be sent to the schools by August. Good luck.
