Hello all,

So, I'm in a conundrum. My school offers a single biology lab in conjunction with the intro biology sequence. The only other labs are a 500-level immunobiology lab that I would have to bend over backwards to take or in conjunction with Genetics. The latter is what I was planning to do until I discovered that I could bypass genetics to take microbiology. I have done all of the genetics coursework between my research and previous coursework so--with the exception of some quick recall facts--it would be a lot of review. In this vein, I am wondering about the rigidity of biology lab requirements. As in, as a part of my major I am required to take a course called Biological Chemistry lab. The lab consists of running CD, PCR, Poly-acrylamide gels, and other biologically relevant experiments; however, this lab is under the moniker of CHE instead of BIO. My question is this: Would, given the actual title of the lab, this be able to be counted under the Biology lab requirement?

It probably depends on the schools you are applying to. I would be safe and take the intro bio lab.

I already took the intro lab; you have to take a year's worth of the lab no? The intro lab is one semester, so I need another lab

I will do so, thank you
I think what may end up happening is that I'll have to take the extra class which will probably put me overloading one semester...

It's weird; it's almost like a separate "class"
Gen 1 was the molecular level stuff; i.e. dna/rna, cell cycle, basic genetics with some phylogenetics thrown in there
Gen 2 was all Evo-devo and physiological
the Lab focused on the topics more in Gen 1 but did other things; ie statistical analyses, pcr (well, "pcr"), and speciation/phylogeny
