Pre-requisites for Admission

Hi -

I am hoping to apply this cycle but I have a question regarding the pre-requisites for admission/required classes for dental schools. I know that most schools generally want a certain amount of o-chem, bio, g-chem, physics, and English but do all of their requirements need to be completed in order to stand a chance at getting accepted? For example, I am trying to plan my Spring quarter and I have only completed 2 quarters of English. I know most schools prefer/require a whole year so I need to do one more quarter. Would it be smart/required to take an English class to satisfy these requirements? If a school says that it requires a year (3 quarters) of English - do they want this to be done when I apply or does it just need to be done by the time I graduate and go to dental school? Will having these classes help me in any way?

I am kind of on the fence for next quarter because I can either take an upper division biology class or my 3rd quarter of English. I assumed that the science class might help with admissions but I also didn't know exactly how these pre-requisites work.

I think it depends on the school you are applying to. I think most of them are pre-matriculation (not before you apply), but I would talk to the dean of admission at the schools you are interested in. I know for UT memphis, all required courses were pre-matriculation requirements (I took biochem during the fall semester when I was applying).

a really good book to look at is the adea official guide to dental schools. It gives you the break down of each school in detail, what gpa they usually admit, dat, recommended courses, tuition, etc. GL
