This is a general question for all members. Is there any specific reading I could do to start a path residency hitting the ground running so to speak? I have been offered advice ranging from reviewing Robbins, Histology, Gross anatomy and even Rosai..What would be the consensus here..considering I might have one month at most?

Thanks

Don't waste your time pre-residency.. just enjoy your freedom.

I plan on taking that one month to do one thing - relax. That seems to be the global consensus when I've seen this thread in previous years. You'll hit the ground running regardless of what you've read or haven't read. Its like trying to read ahead for third year - no point, just relax and get ready to work...

You could read all of Rosai in a month... Wait, that is for my other thread. I agree, enjoy the break.

don't worry about prepping for path residency...honestly, just get all things squared away to take STEP3 as soon as your med school can confirm your graduation so you can knock that beast out before you start PGY-1.

Wow..thank you all..That is great!! I was fearing that i had to do some groundwork. SLU..thanks for the Step3 tip. I am an IMG..so thankfully that is out of the way already (I was commented on at every interview about the importance of getting it out of the way). For IMG's, it probably helps getting Step 3 done before applying to increase interviews, IMHO.

We have this thread every year, if you look for threads around a year ago you will probably find others.

take it easy, but if you get bored, reading a couple chapters in robbins won't hurt you

Read the second half of Robbins once the summer before residency. You'll be way ahead of the game.

I agree with the second half of Robbins. Maybe keep up to date with interesting journal publications, some case pubs, etc. That's probably all you need to have a nice brush-up and not overwork yourself. Like others have said, concentrate on enjoying freedom 😉

I asked the same question to a friend.

She told me that a histology review would be useful.

But she also added that I should enjoy my free time because I would never have something similar again...:scared:

I think the only way that you could possibly prepare for residency is by having done a PSF/PJF (and some of them are questionable at best). Just get drunk and sleep in--nothing that you will do in that month will help come July.
