i have friends who are trying to get a preceptorship. what suprised me was:

-there are not many
-depending on your state, there may only be one pod willing to do it
-pods dont want to compensate graduates
-most are used as free labor for non podiatry related things (taking kids to appt, nanny work etc)

i am flabergasted. all this rah rah flag waving due to the shortage, but practicing pods wont even open thier doors? seriously?

what do they expect the non matched to do? i thought preceptorships were at least a given?

It's funny how many pods write in to certain popular publications/sites complaining about the shortage....yet over 12,000 of DPMs (about 75% of our profession) have ZERO involvement in our education and training

Thank you. My point exactly-I don't know why this is, but it is hurting the profession-at the expense of the students/graduates.

The preceptorships talked about here, are for recent graduates that were not able to secure a residency position this year. You may not get many responses in the podiatry student forums.
