This is going to be used to push for centralized totalitarian governments just like China's. Already the CCP is pushing propaganda that because of their totalitarian regime, they were able to "save the world" from COVID. The reality is the CCP caused this pandemic by covering up the COVID outbreak and silencing the whistleblowers. They are now doing a global propaganda campaign trying to cover this up.

I wish. But everything before all this happened was literally “cut healthcare dollars” “we spend too much on science, medicine, and healthcare” and oh yeah “doctors make too much for what they do”.

I don’t honestly think those general sentiments will change. Appreciation and awareness for these things (or anything for that matter) lasts as long as the average attention span these days. Think of how many times the nation has said “teachers deserve a raise”, but when it comes to actually paying for that raise, everyone turns their heads.

Once this all clears up. Americans and their govt will just go back to bussiness as usual. CMS cuts. Destroying private practices. And putting midlevels on the fast track to total independence.

Americans will quickly forget whatever sacrifice you made and move on with life. And why should they want to harp on it.

No one gives a damn about physicians.

No effen way. I cannot imagine that hospital admins will pay docs not not make money (procedures) for them. I would guess that the checks will get smaller or you will be asked to slap on a mask and a garbage bag to help care for COVID patients.

If you are happy working the line and if the steady check keeps coming that is wonderful but obviously not for everyone.

no. i have no delusions that the adminstrators are awful. granted.

its great that you are being selfless right now. many in medicine -- and especially outside of medicine -- dont have that luxury. they just close up shop. i have seen unemployment predictions in the 25% range. now is when it is good to be associated with a gigantic entity with buttloads of cash reserves that can go in the red and then make it back over time (or get a bailout).

I private practices adopted telemedicine rapidly with the help of the FED-waiving numerous layers of restrictions. Small business grants are key as well. By having a diversified patient population small business pp will always stay afloat, even in social medicine practicing countries.

I also hope Affordable health care is swapped with Quality & Innovative Medicine, as mentioned by Agast above.

When new medications or technologies are not covered or allowed (generic first) by Medicare or commercial insurance , who’s going to developer antibiotics and antivirals/vaccines for super infections .

I think this pandemic supports a more free transparent competitive health market .

I’ve been thinking this same thing for a while regarding the exodus of hospital employed physicians but sadly I don’t see private practice as a model of stability going forward. I really hope we will be able to unionize and collectively bargain in the future.

The other thing I wish is that asinine regulatory bodies like Joint Commission get dissolved. Where is their two cents now? During a surprise inspection a few months ago, I had to change out my face mask and gloves twice during the middle of an injection because the idiot nurse reviewer preached this technique as a model of infection control. I hope her fat ass got called in to help out with some of these COVID patients with limited PPE.
