hi

i was wondering what the experience has been regarding the predictive value of the UWSA. I actually in a bit of a bind. I have a date for the end of the month and i am nowhere near what i wanted to get done before the exam.

So i am looking at giving the UWSA over the weekend to see where im at score wise. depending on the score i will decide whether i should reschedule my date and get more done or try to power through as best as i can.

UW avg so far 73%
Step 1 242

Any input appreciated

I was wondering the same - I jumped like 50 points on the UWSA from my NBME...so I asked around (from the general pop, not the 280 folks here on SDN =P) and it seems that people who took UWSA earlier in their prep didn't score as well as those who took it after completing UW (comparing those with similar UW % at the end). Makes sense that doing UW over and over and over will give you a good score on UWSA....and my score is probably just a much needed ego boost!

I'm using the UWSA on tuesday as my baseline diagnostic exam.. mainly because its 4 blocks instead of being full length lol. I have completed UW once though this school year, so i imagine ill have seen a lot of similar questions

I still think the NBMEs are the more valid predictors.

thanks for the input. I did take the UWSA it gave me 660/250.

but i had the luxury of postponing so i did because i was only 50% thru UWORLD so i figured finishing that up would only help my score. My personal uwsa experience giving step 1 has been a 20 point drop from the predicted score. dont want a repeat of that.

I am not too sure about taking NBMEs i hear they underpredict. they might torpedo my confidence

for me, there was a 20-30 point difference between UWSA and NBME.

I personally struggled with NBME because i found their questions to be quite vague with specific answer choices. With UWSA, they atleast fed me enough information to pivot in one direction so I found it easier.

My real score was two points less than predicted by the med friends (UW) calculator. It was also 8 points higher than what the UWSA gave me. Both the UW calculations were much more accurate than the NBME stuff I did.

Hey that's pretty good for only half done!

I was not a fan of the nbmes...I kept getting distracted by phrases like "cassette disk player" and "floppy drives"....🙄
