First of all I just want to say that I'm of the camp that firmly believes in the predictive value of statistical analysis. Recently, after assimilating some of the stats I've seen people post in the weekly threads, I've been drafting a survey which I want to send out to my classmates in order to find correlations between certain aspects of their testing performances and their STEP score. The survey contains no identifying data and will be based on self-report. So far, the survey asks about:
  • Step score
  • Medical school GPA
  • First practice test score
  • Highest practice test score
  • Which NBME did you find to be most predictive of actual test difficulty
  • First pass UWorld score
  • How many weeks of dedicated studying
  • How many hours a day
  • Which prep course (if any), e.g. Kaplan, DIT
  • Which additional resources other than UWorld & FA
As I think many of us would be interested in knowing how medical students' grades correlate with their step performance, I see a great deal of potential in having this data for analysis. Since I want to make sure I cover all grounds here, what other stats would you guys want to know that could possibly reflect actual step 1 performance?

MCAT score - to get a baseline of their test taking ability.

MCAT score - to get a baseline of their test taking ability.
Highest MCAT composite and broken out by section as well as the number of attempts at the MCAT to achieve that score might be useful.

A pretty large sample will be useful if you plan to do a meaningful model validation. I would also try to distribute the survey to as many schools as possible.
