I matched for derm, but not for prelim (interviewed only 3 places, wanted to stay local, but am still quite suprised that I did not match).

I would really appreciate any info on prelim programs in the midwest (particularly Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, western PA, western NY), that you have heard good things about, so I have something to go on when the unmatched list comes out tomorrow.

I hear you. The same thing happened to me! It definitely takes away the excitement of matching in dermatology (having to find a preliminary in the scramble). Good luck! I'll be manning the phones, etc. tomorrow as well.

If you're looking in the midwest, Case Western Reserve's MetroHealth prelim medicine program is great. Excellent training and it's only 6-7 months inpatient (not bad for a medicine year). Also 3 months of electives and 4 weeks vacation. I think they fill most years, but it's worth considering if it's on the list of unfilled programs on Tuesday.

Sorry I can't think of more ideas than this in the midwest -- good luck!

Sorry I don't have much to add, but prelim surgery spots go unfilled quit often, if you want to put yourself threw that hell. I've known a few rads and gas guys who've scrambled into those spots. I even know a derm guy who did prelim surgery on purpose cause he wanted to be a better surgeon when he applies for mohs, not sure if that makes a difference.
