I am completing my rank list, I have made a suppl. list for the prelims to go with the anesthesiology ranks. here is the question, I ranked 10 spots for anesthesiology in the primary rank list, should i rank the prelim spots again in the primary list??? so now i have ranked the prelim in the suppl list and in the primary rank list.

I would recommend ranking the preliminary spots in the primary rank list. This way, if you do go that far down your rank list, you won't have to worry about scrambling for a PGY-1 spot in addition to a CA-1 spot as well.

I agree with this. My school actually advised everyone to do this for the exact reason stated above. It caused me to have to pay a few bucks and, hopefully, I won't have to use it, but I feel more safe having done it.

HTH

Just keep in mind that if you do list prelim spots at the bottom of your list then you wont be able to scramble for categorical anesthesia positions if they are available. You will be contracted to a prelim program for your first year--just something to consider. I haven't made my mind up on adding transitional/prelim spots to the bottom of my rank list yet. Any other thoughts?

I would not rank, and did not rank, prelims in the primary rank list last year. The reason being already stated, that you won't be able to scramble into a 4 year anesthesia program without breaking your contract.

I really would not worry about getting any old prelim spot unless geographical reasons are binding for you. If this is in fact the case then ranking prelim programs in your main rank list may actually make sense. Otherwise I wouldn't bother. There will be a TON of prelim spots open, even categorical peds/FP/IM programs that don't fill and would be happy to take someone for a year just to fill a spot for a year.

someone above mentioned paying extra for more programs. I certified my list with 13 total, and there was never any mention of payment; my "fee status" says "Paid." What am I missing out on?

If you rank >15 programs on your ROL there is an associated fee.

Is this only on your Primary list? Because I had 12 ranked on my primary, but 4 more which were only on supplemental (prelims). It didn't say anything about costing me any money. I am now just freaking out that I missed something. Any comments on that?
