so the highly anticipated monday in March when we find out if we matched or not...

if you're applying to advanced programs AND preliminary positions, how do you know whether you've matched for both. will it indicate that you've only matched for one or the other?

be kinduva crappy series of events to see the "congrats you matched" email only to learn it was just for your prelim and not for your specialty....

anyone got an answer?

i think on monday before match day, if you havent matched one or the other, or both you will be contacted to participate in the scramble.

On that Monday you will get one of several messages:

1 Congratulations, you have matched!
You get this if you matched to a categorical program or an advanced + prelim program. You won't know which until the following Thursday.

2 Congratulations, you have matched to an advanced position but not a first year position!
You'll have to scramble for a prelim spot.

3 Congratulations, you have matched to a one year position!
You matched to a prelim spot, presumably down near the end of your primary ROL. You can scramble for an advanced spot (if you wish).

4 We are sorry, you did not match to any position!
You have your work cut out for you. You can scramble for any spot in any specialty.

5 You did NOT match because you did not submit a certified ROL!
See #4.

6 You did NOT match because you are withdrawn!
Not allowed access to the list of unfilled programs, making scrambling really really difficult.

This would probably be my match nightmare...thinking I certified and then turns out I didn't (or there was a computer glitch or something). I take it we get some kind of email with an email confirmation after we certify?

Yes, you do. And if you are not certified as the final hour approaches, you also get warning emails.

However, if I remember, someone on this board got those reminder emails and thought they were "thank you for participating in this year's match" type of thing.... badness....

Yes, I recall that as well.

Moral: please read your emails from ERAS thoroughly.

Ah ok, thanks for the info. That makes me feel a bit better.

Though the thought of a computer glitch is still a little uncomfortable...

I refreshed the paged continuously for the last 5 min before the submission deadline -- didn't make any changes, just refreshing. I was terrified that my list would suddenly be deleted. Then I finally got the message that I could no longer edit the list or something, and that was a relief.

I hate to point it out, but this type of behavior actually increases the chance of a system crash / error / problem.

Oh, I know, so my "continuously" was really about every 30s for the 5min before the deadline, which for me is an improvement that I held out that long and refreshed only every 30s. I actually had to get up and leave my computer in between refreshing to not refresh more.

I check on things, and I always have. =) Now I start stalking the ER board about 1.5 hours before I go in during my ER month to see how miserable I'm going to be when I get there and see how fast it gets bad.
