Hi All,
This question probably was asked here before, but I was unable to find an answer.
I am looking for a professional premed adviser, who can help me to define a strategy to get into medical school. My background is pretty messy, but the worst part is that I have no idea about admission process and educational system in US. Despite my 10 years in US, MS degree in theoretical physics, well paid job and daughter in MIT I never dealt with educational system here. I will be much obliged if you can recommend any good advisor?

Thanks a lot,
kentavr

Try googling this: "medical school admissions consulting"

A much cheaper route: Buy or borrow the Iserson book (Getting into Medical School! A Guide for the Perplexed, Kenneth Iserson, Galen Press) to see what you're getting into, and the basics of admissions. Then you'll know what questions you have that are off the beaten track. (I've read maybe 10 premed guides, and this one is the most helpful and thorough.)

Also I suggest that you post the same question in the pre-allopathic section of the forum. I believe you'll find a large number of foreign-educated premeds.

Lastly, you could probably beg some time from a premed advisor at your nearest university. This will be far more pleasurable if you've already read Iserson.

My $.02.

Thanks a lot for your reply DrMidLife!
It looks like a good advice. I'll get the book and will try to find local college advisor. Also your keywords for google are more productive than whatever I was using before.

So your $.02 cents are not so small as they look. I guess it all depends on the currency course 🙂

Best Regards,

Kentavr:

I can't recommend Judy Colwell enough. I've found her advice to be of huge benefit.

Reading up on the process before talking to a premed advisor is a good idea, so you can maximize your time (read: money) that you spend with her.

But I found Judy particularly helpful in working with me to "package" myself. Having an expert there to help me strategize how to position my application in this way was very useful.

I can speak to this much more if you want to PM me. I've been very happy with her services.
