Hi, I've got a question that's been on my mind. How difficult is it for premed postbacs with no research experience to find research opportunities while enrolled in a postbac program? I specifically have Harvard Extension in mind (the 2-year, part time program where all class are at night).

My end goal is pursuing a career that combines primary care and research. How important is it for me to get research experience before applying to med school? Would research in the gap year suffice?

I'm trying to decide between the part time Harvard Extension program and a one year program that provides more structure and possible linkage. What would benefit me most in the long run? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

If you go to one of the top structured programs with linkage, you don't really need any research either before or during postbac. You will get into a good MD school no matter what as long as you do well academically and follow their advice.
