I walked over the undergrad library today to meet a non med student friend of mine. As I walk in I see someone with a Step 1 book sitting at a computer. They are studying organic chemistry. I go over to the person and start up a conversation and tell me they are in the process of applying to med school. I wished him the best of luck and told him a little of my story on how I got in. I ask about the Step 1 book and he tells me he wants to get a head start on the studying, mind you he has NOT been accepted anywhere just yet. Anyone else ever have something like this happen to them?

I had no idea what Step 1 was in undergrad, and since UAMS is a good 150+ miles from U of Arkansas, I haven't noticed anything like that. Head over to the Pre-Allo forum if you want to get the online version. I probably would've slapped the kid.

After I stopped laughing, I would have warned him to have head & neck anatomy DOWN cause they love pimping you on that during interviews.

I would have asked him to look up what medication is used to treat Douche syndrome.

When this guy is your boss one day you will rue this thread.

I think Gracie and McDowe really nailed this one. Douche syndrome is frequently asked during interviews, and it is in Robbins, but not in the glossary, so they really select for the students who care. Pronounce douche in an elequent way so it takes him a while and wish him good luck.

Dow-shay syndrome. Easily treated with relaxitol. If relaxitol fails, try slapinfacemab.

If I knew what step 1 was during undergrad, I would have changed career paths... if only:laugh:

You do realize that in posting such a comment to an internet message board and telling someone what they should do... that you are... in fact... worrying about what other people are doing...

When you say "He" you're referring to yourself, right?

This made me laugh. Definitely didn't figure out what step 1 was until halfway through my first semester, and didn't have any review books until second year.

Yep, I've had a guy ace his MCAT and go straight into studying for Step 1 right after. He's now doing his residency in rad. Imo, there's nothing wrong with getting a head start. Those step 1 books actually teach the stuff better than med school. He was probably using it as a reference.

Relax bro, I just thought it was funny. I personally dont care if he is studying for Step 3! So take a chill pill and get back to studying for a test 5+ years in advance.
