Preoperative lab before spinal procedure

What kind of preoperative jabs you orders before procedures like Kyphoplasty or SCS ?
recently I have been adding platelet function test along with other labs, but have been getting lot of abnormal results , end up cancelling the case and sending to hemetology consult!
What is your consensus on platelet function test? Does any body orders that?

None for SCS trials.
Usual stuff for ASC/OR: EKG, CBC, CMP, CXR

No labs unless suspected abnormalities. Even for ASC/OR the preop guidelines have Changed in that most healthy people need no labs or preop testing at all.

it all depends on a patients history and clinical condition, as noted above. testing is done if indicated.

nothing is required per se.

cardiac hx - get ekg and cxr.

pulm hx - get cxr.

history of bleeding or on anticoags - get cbc and coags.


if all the above answers arent sufficient, then you should consider sending your patients to an anesthesiology Pre An clinic, where they will happily order appropriate testing and discuss anesthetic plans with the patient.
