Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on how I can prep for Step 2 ahead of time. I found my studying style from Step 1 and unlike others I need to study for a year bit by bit just to get it towards the end. Studying for 3 months doesn't work for me I am a slow reader and learner.

If anyone has any advice on what I can study or buy to read during my first few rotations it would be helpful.

My first rotation is Family Med!

the Family Medicine shelf was quite an annoying test.

There were a sizable # of questions which are not covered in the qbanks. The "family" type questions. For instance, knowing exactly what to do if a patient complains her elderly mother is having difficulty driving and knowing what to do and when to revoke the license.

All in all, read Case Files Family Medicine first. This should prepare you for most of the encounters you'll see in the outpatient arena.

My family rotation was quite an easy going one (mostly outpatient based) and I had lots of time to study. I did mine near the end, but since you are starting with it, if you happen to have extra time, then start going through the Kaplan videos.

I have found learning from the Kaplan videos before and during rotations to have been of immense help to me in understanding basic clinical concepts.

(Or use DIT, Falcon, w/e fits your fancy)

A lot of students just use UWorld and they do quite fine. Personally, I feel the more qbanks you do (despite diminishing returns) the graeter the fund of knowledge you'll have.

But ultimately it all comes down to your wallet size eh?

Thank you.

Quick question "Case files" can be found on amazon?

Once again great information to start with thanks for spending the time to type it all up!
