So right now I am trying not to be a complete waste of space... next semester I only need 8 hours to graduate. Are there any classes I should take that will make my first year in dental school a bit easier? I am going to UFCD.

Thanks!😀

The two biggies in our first semester were biochem and histology. Like I said in another thread, for me biochem was very challenging. I wish I had taken it in undergrad to at least be somewhat familiar with all those pathways you have to memorize. Histo wasn't too bad, if you were a bio major I think you have been exposed to a lot of that stuff before. But if not I can see it being a little tough as well. So I would say it depends on your background. Check with your school to see what classes your going to have and then plan accordingly. I would say any upper level science, anatomy, histo, micro might be a wise choice.

Honestly, I don't think there was a single class in undergrad that I found useful in the first two years of dental school. I remembered nothing from undergrad. Aside from the basic sciences (biology and chemistry) only because they drill this stuff into you since high school. Assuming you can remember most of the stuff you study, I think gross anatomy and neurology were my two hardest classes. You may want to find some current UFCD students and see what they thought were most difficult and what they recommend. My suggestion would be to enjoy your new found free time. Read all the books you want to read. Travel to the places you want to go to. Because you won't have any time for it the first two years of school. 😛
