Hey everyone! So Im just about to start my fourth year with peds sub I as my first rotation, Im super excited however kinda nervous b/c I havn't studied peds since my 3 rd year rotation last fall 🙁. Any tips on how to prepare, like books to skim through or any topics I should know cold?

I would say review basics - ped H&P, newborn/ped exam, fluid management, commonly used antibiotics (since every infant who comes into the ED seems to get a sepsis r/o workup). Honestly a lot will come back to you. And there is always a chance to read up-to-date quickly to help.

Just be helpful to your intern and upper level. You're going to learn a lot along the way, but your residents will be learning a lot in July too! Have fun!

The book The Philadelphia Guide: Inpatient Pediatrics is a great reference at an MSIV/Intern level. I agree, good things to review are IV fluid ordering, fever in neonate, cellulitis, pneumonia, bronchiolitis. These will be your bread and butter. Everything else you can study as you go.

Good luck!
