I took a year off between medical school and residency. I graduated in May 2010 and plan to start an Ob/Gyn residency in July 2011 (hopefully). I was wondering if anyone has taken time off before starting residency and has suggestions on books or ways to to get ready for internship. I'm pretty good with my Ob/Gyn info but I would like to review IM, Peds, Family etc which I haven't done since third year medical school. Suggestions???

just review your step 2 stuff(Kaplan or of the sorts). It has all the core stuff you should be expected to have some idea on when you begin. If you want to be creative just combine that with some step 3 studying so you get that done with before you start as its quite a pain to deal with.

wow, I graduated in June '10 and took a year off as well before residency. Let's hope we match this year. I am going for EM and if I match I will read several EM texts since they are quite broad to begin with.

i took off a year as well and although the first 2 months were rough, the last 6 months have been ok. i didnt read ahead of time or anything, just enjoy yourself.!
