preparing for step 2 cs

hey haven't really checked out this forum, but I'm curious about this question too. I'm trying to plan out when to take step 2cs. Is it something I would need to take 1-2 weeks off to prep for or something I can just do on a saturday in 4th year while I'm in the middle of rotations

It really depends. I personally took 3 days prior to the exam to study. This is only because I had just finished my internal medicine rotation, so interviewing patients and conducting physicals were already comfortable to me. I read over FA and had a friend act as a patient on a few cases. I took it in March, and I found out last week that I passed. I had either asterisks or above average performances, with nothing on borderline.

On the other hand, my classmate studied with 2 other students over skype for 3 weeks, and one of them did not pass. I did not ask for specifics pertaining to the failure, but it must have been a glaring mistake.

Spend as much time as you deem necessary. And yes... speaking English does help a lot. I've met some very smart students, but their English can definitely be an obstacle. Good luck guys

If you're a US student, I don't see any need to take time off to study. All I did was read parts of FA the day before--didn't bother with any of the cases.

My school has an extensive standardized patient program though, so it was a format I'm familiar with. If your school doesn't, you may need to do a bit more prep.

Taking it on a Saturday during fourth year is just fine. You'll be sadly disappointed if you waste 1-2 weeks of vacation time to study for CS.
