Prepharm acceptance vs pharm acceptance

Will someone explain why it can be insanely easy to get into prepharm, but pharmacy at the same school will be like 10X harder to get into. Is the pharmacy as hard as prepharm if it's at the same school?

Prepharm is just a general term and you "major" it's just a track that will get you to take all the pre Reqs needed to apply to their pharmacy program.
Just because you are in the prepharm program doesn't mean you will get into the pharmacy college. It requires a whole separate application process.

That's all dependent on the school. Sometimes they make you apply for admission, sometimes you're guaranteed acceptance. I think the latter is a broken system.

You don't get into school as a "pre-pharm" student. You get accepted to an undergraduate school on par with other high school grads depending on undergraduate criteria. Pharmacy school has higher admission standards as a graduate program and as such the standards are different from undergrad admission criteria. Generally speaking, it's a much more competitive field to get into a grad program over getting into an undergrad institution to work on an undergrad degree. In most cases the schools themselves have a separate and autonomous admissions committee from what the undergraduate admissions committee has. The committee that accepted you into the undergraduate institution isn't going to be the same one that accepts students into the pharmacy program.

Yeah, the mathematical ratios might not correlate perfectly in the scenario I proposed. 🙂

Sometimes school accept you for 0-6 programs and those are classified as "prepharm" but I wouldn't neccessarily categorize them as easy.
