I am doing an FPD 22-27 for a guy who is missing 23-26. He presently has canine guidance. When designing the restoration, should I keep him in canine guidance or pick up some other teeth during lateral excursion to keep some force off the FPD? I realize the answer is going to be "it depends", but I'd like to know what y'all think the most important factors would be. (perio, etc)

This is a pretty sticky situation. I would say your main issue, will be the facial porcelain wearing the linguals of #6, #11. You will force your patient into group function eventually. It's not an easy treatment plan.

As far as the bridge goes, I would not be particularly worried, since canines are designed to withstand these forces by nature. As long your perio prognosis is favorable (vertical/horizontal bone defects, mobility, mucogingival) and a good crown:root ratio, you should be in good shape.

Personally I would include the first premolars as abutments with this case.
