I only have 3 "regular" semesters and 1 summer term to finish my prereqs if I want to apply for Fall 2005 admittance to UF.

I took Calc and the Physics in 1982 so I don't have to retake them. I am working full time until March, then working part time while finishing up. So in January I am taking Chem I and Public Speaking. Summer I am taking Chem II in a 6 week session (class will be 8a-12p Monday-Thursday). Then in Fall 2004 I am taking Bio I, OChem I, and A&P I, then Spring the IIs. Does this sound doable to you all? Or should I take Bio I in the earlier summer term (also 8a-12 Monday-Thursday) and take perhaps biochem in Spring 2005. Not required, but I have heard it is helpful. Thoughts?

Taking biochem will help you immensely. Biology I & II are easy courses, so you could take Bio I during the summer when you take Gen Chem II. Are you taking your classes at USF or HCC? That can make a difference.

I am taking my classes at PCC. I am in Polk County. If they don't offer them when I need them, I am not adverse to going to HCC or USF to pick up the classes I need. I really want to stay on my timeline to apply for Fall of 2005.

Dana or anyone else who knows the answer,

Will the UF advisors talk to me even though I am a year from applying? I want to make sure that I won't have a surprise next year and be unable to apply. Should I call the main campus or do they have adequate advisors on the satellite campus?

Thanks!

I emailed the COP when I was a year away. They wrote back and answered my questions. Most questions are answered during open house, but that was back in October. You can send me a PM and I can try to help you out with any specific questions.

I think you should take anything you can as soon as you can so you have some current grades for schools to look at when they see your application. I started my trek back to pharmacy school in January last year and I will be finished with pre-reqs in May. I think your current schedule is fine, but I think it would be great if you could get your bio out of the way in summer. I only have Physics II and Organic II left for the spring- I think it is necessary to have as many of your prereqs finished before you apply so schools can see that you are successful with the material. Good luck to you!

I've noticed that different school requires different classes for prereq. For example, Florida requires 1 year of biology and 1 semester of public speaking, but other schools I'm applying to only require 1 semester of biology, and no public speaking. Will Florida allow me to take the biology and public speaking class in the summer before I enroll if I got accepted there?

Yes, I was missing Organic II, Physics II, Anatomy I & Anatomy II when I got my acceptance letter from UF. My letter stated that I had to meet the same academic standards as my previous classes. In other words, don't let my GPA drop.

dgroulx, did you take all those classes in the summer before you enrolled in pharmacy school?

If I could, I would take Bio I, II and Chem II this coming summer, but I don't think the schedule will work. They are all 8 - 12 M-F. 🙁 So summer 1 term I am taking Bio I and summer 2 term Chem II.

No, I took them all in the spring, except for Anatomy II in the summer.
