I know that there are threads that discuss this situation, but mine in a little different. I was wondering if anyone got into an osteopathic program prior to completing all of their prereqs. My situation is different because I have done all course sciences classes except 1 credit of physics.

I know for almost all DO programs the only things that I am deficient in are 1 credit of physics lab, which im taking now. Another school requires 3 creds of biochem...which im also taking right now this school year. Finally, some schools like LECOM require 3 more credits of behavioral sciences, which is a piece of cake. I plan to take another psychology course the spring semester.

My grades in the orgo, chem, bio, physics etc are all A's 1-B, but should I email all the schools now and be like, "I will get these prereqs done by this year." or how should I go about this? Please help! Thanks! 🙂

Is the biochem requirement UNECOM? I know they actually have a distance learning program for accepted students who haven't taken that class. It's required prior to matriculation, not prior to application. As far as the physics, though, other schools might be more picky. I have a feeling you could probably get it done post-acceptance, but honestly your best bet is to just call or email each school and get the real deal from the people that matter. I would definitely not make such an important application decision on SDN rumor. SDN is good for lots of things, but not as a single resource for stuff like this!

Best of luck!

Ugh I was afraid I'd have to contact them individually....all 19 of them 🙁

What's funny is that I took a lab for biomedical enginering over optics and electricity. I know the MD medical school in my state accepts it as physics lab 2, but I might have to jump through hoops to get it accepted for DO.

Anyone else run into this problem? I'm literally short 1 credit for about 12 DO schools and I'm taking it now. I just dont want them to sit on my app for 3 months just to see my fall grades for 1 credit physics lab you know?

It's ok if you don't have your prereqs done when you apply. You just need to complete them before you matriculate. When you fill out the aacomas you also fill out your planned courses.

I hadn't taken Biochem, Organic 2, or Physics 2 when I applied and recieved multiple acceptances. Nobody asked me about the courses I hadn't taken yet at the interviews.

seap3, thanks so much. that's what i hoped to hear. It's a bonus that i see you're from DMU. Nice!

yeah you don't have to mention that you are going to take a specific class. i have not taken genetics and i did not indicate that i was going to take genetics and i have an interiew at kcumb. if I get in there, i will take it. if i get in.

Ok sounds like a plan. Congrats on your interviews. I hope to get interviews soon, aacomas finally put up my mcat on my app. Who knows, maybe we'll be classmates somewhere. 🙂
