prerequisite course online through university extension

If a school indicates that it accepts online courses for a particular course, does enrolling in a credit-granting university extension fulfill this requirement? or enrolling in a online course in a community college?

I know ultimately the answer will be school-specific, but generally what is the policy?

School indicates that it accepts online courses = Online courses count as long as they are from an accredited university/college

Am i missing something?
