Hello,

I don't know if this is the right thread for this question, so please refer me to the correct thread if this is not it!

I am from Canada and I am planning to apply to American and Canadian medical schools this summer to be admitted during 2010. However, I have not finished the all the prerequisite courses (ie. English) yet. My question is, when is the deadline for completing such pre-med required courses. I am planning to fulfil them during 2009-2010 year, would they still be considered fulfilled even if I took them after the application has been done this summer?

Thank you

You are fine as long as you take them before starting med school.

Thank you for your answer! Do I have to mail them that I am going to take the English course later or would they automatically receive my final transcript before I get rejected?

On your AMCAS, you can list the courses that you plan to take in the future. You should list the English course as future course.
Once you are accepted, they will request your final transcript before you officialy start med school.
Not sure If you have a space for such things in the Canadian school apps.

If they ask, you'll tell them. I think I had a school that waitlisted me which sent me a little note with my waitlist update that told me that I would be expected to complete such-and-such more English before I would be allowed to matriculate. But it didn't seem like a big deal, finishing up English and writing in your senior year is pretty common, in my experience.

Thanks people, wasn't expecting such swift replies! Sorry if I ask too many questions.

You mentioned "English and writing", I have taken a writing course which is not under the english department. Would that be considered as a fulfillment to the English requirement?

It isn't uncommon for an admission office to give permission for such a substitution, but you have to call them to get it, since the AMCAS transcript will still list it by its course designation.
