Hi everyone,

I heard optometry schools primarily look at the prerequisites courses GPA. Does that mean for SCCO, it would include Calculus, Statistics, Ochem, Gchem, Microbiology, English, Psychology, Biology, Physics, Biochem, Human Anatomy and Human Physiology as it appears on the prerequisites list? It is about 76 units. My question is that do they calculate GPA from those classes only or do they look at other science courses that were taken?

Thank you! I appreciate it.

You will have a "pre-requisite GPA" which of course is calculated off of only your pre-requisite grades and then an Overall GPA which is...well, overall/all your classes taken including pre-requisites, non-pre-requisite sciences, and non sciences. Like really, everything. They will look at both GPAs, of course you're probably a little better off if your pre-req GPA>overall GPA, but plenty of people are pre-req gpa<overall gpa and get in with no problems. Just don't slack on your OAT!

yeah, i too would like to know if you took Upper level science classes, like upper level plant biology, and did well on that but did poorly on the pre-reqs, which are all lower division.
