I have a C in physics I and a C+ in organic I. I do however have a B in physics I lab and a B+ in organic chemistry I lab. In physics II I got an A- and an A in lab. In organic chemistry II, I got a B and an A in lab. I need opinions....Will I be ok? I have almost all A's since, and during the time of my first physics and orgo class I had a serious personal situation going on. What will the Admissions committees think?

Are you willing to explain your personal situation to the AdComs if they ask you about the grades? If you have the time, money, and endurance to retake the classes and do better then I would personally retake them. You obviously can get an A in physics I because you did it in physics II. You obviously can get a B or better in organic because you did that second semester, a semester which builds off of the first, extensively in my views. I'd say retake them if you can, but be prepared to do better. If you can't do better than figure out how you're going to explain that life experience that caused the decline in your prerequisites. You also did not mention biology being a problem so you have a mind that can memorize. For organic, memorizing basic principles of electron pushing gets you a long way. Best of luck, and keep your head up!

You may want to consider retaking Organic I, it's usually a major "weed out" mechanism. However, if you don't have the resources or if you don't think you will make a better grade, I would definitely explain your situation. Good luck!

Thats a somewhat weird grade trend, but its not a killer. I had a C- in 2nd semester Organic, and had to seriously consider taking it again since most schools don't accept below a C. If you went to a fairly tough school, it might not matter as much. If your overall GPA and science GPA aren't all that bad, it also might not be such a big deal. If this is your only bad aspect of your application, its not all that bad IMHO.
